LUCENA CITY – Exiled Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison called President Duterte “crazy” for revoking the amnesty granted by former President Benigno S. Aquino III to former coup plotter and now Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

“Duterte is really crazy,” Sison said in an online interview from his base in Utrecht, The Netherlands on Tuesday.

Sison accused Duterte of “violating the principle of amnesty and is putting Trillanes under double jeopardy.”

“He (Duterte) cannot revoke the amnesty granted by his predecessor,” Sison insisted.

He added: “The court concerned and Congress concurred and agreed with the amnesty of the Magdalo officers and men.”

In his Proclamation 572 signed on August 31, Mr. Duterte ordered the revocation of the amnesty due to Trillanes’ alleged failure to apply for amnesty and refusal to admit his crimes over the Oakwood mutiny in 2003 and the Manila Peninsula siege in 2007.
