LEGAZPI CITY – A soldier was wounded in an ambush by suspected members of New People’s Army (NPA) Saturday morning in Ragay town in Camarines Sur province, a police report said.

Sergeant Amador Mansion, commander of a Philippine Army detachment in Ragay, was riding a motorcycle with a man identified only by his last name Portugal, a Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) Active Auxiliaries member, and negotiating a road in Barangay (village) Baya going to the detachment camp when NPA rebels waylaid them with a volley of gunfire at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, according to Chief Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson.

The victim was hit in his right shoulder but managed to speed up his motorcycle and escape his attackers. Portugal was unharmed.

Upon reaching the Army detachment, other soldiers took the victim to the Ragay District Hospital for treatment. MAR S. ARGUELLES
