Andres Bonifacio, born on Nov. 30, 1863, grew up in the slums of Tondo, Manila. Named after St. Andrew the Apostle, the patron saint of Manila, the founder and organizer of the Katipunan was orphaned as a teenager and had to take care of his younger siblings. He was married twice—to Monica, a neighbor who died of leprosy, and to Gregoria de Jesus, who became Lakambini (Muse) of the Katipunan.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
