Miaa: Removing Xiamen plane cost P15 million

Xiamen Airlines may have to pay at least P15 million for the equipment and manpower services used by the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) to remove its aircraft that skidded off the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last week.
But Miaa General Manager Ed Monreal said Tuesday that the P15 million was just an initial cost and the agency still had “a lot of things to consider.”
“Right now, there’s only two aspects that we just had computed. I think in the range of P15M but there’s still a lot of cost,” Monreal said in an interview with ABS CBN News Channel.
According to Monreal, the P15 million only covers the manpower and the rental for the crane and other equipment used to haul Xiamen Air flight MF8667 off the runway.
Monreal said he already talked to Che Shanglun, chair of XiamenAir regarding the matter.
“I met with the Chairman of Xiamen Airways and they said that they will cooperate,” Monreal said.
Shanglun issued on Monday a public apology to passengers affected by the canceled flights due to the mishap. /cbb
