New PNP database to keep corruption out of police recruitment

While weeding out scalawags from its ranks, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has expanded its internal cleansing program to include applicants to the police force, PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said Tuesday.

Albayalde said they have launched a nationwide database which shows the applicants’ medical results.

“This will prevent the prevailing corruption by applicants who want to join the police force,” said Albayalde during the kick-off of the Robust, Neuro-psychiatric, Medical, and Dental Screening System (RONMEDDS) at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

Albayalde lamented how some applicants bribe police officers to change the results of failed medical exams so they can be accepted into the PNP.

“With this system, we will ensure to stop corruption at the root of recruitment process of police applicants, as some at this early stage are already using corrupt practices,” Albayalde added.

“Kung kayo papasok, palabas yung mga scalawags. Mauubos at mauubos yan at mapapalitan ng maayos na pulis,” Albayalde said.

(As you enter, the scalawags are going out. They will eventually run out and be replaced by good police.)

According to Albayalde under the new system, the medical results of all applicants will be stored in a computer database. The results will also be barcoded to make the findings irreversible.

“Not even me can manipulate that barcoding,” Albayalde said.

He explained the new system is also in response to daily criticisms which the PNP has been receiving.

“Pag tayo’y disiplinado, wala naman sigurong dahilan para magalit pa ang taumbayan sa atin (If we are disciplined, the citizens will not have any reason to be angry at us),” he said.  /muf
