DID YOU KNOW: PH diocese became archbishopric in 1595

On Aug. 14, 1595, Pope Clement VIII issued a papal bull elevating the diocese in the Philippines to an archbishopric with Manila as the episcopal see.

Three suffragan sees were also established: Cebu, Nueva Caceres in Camarines province, and Nueva Segovia in Lal-lo, Cagayan province. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
