Boy drowns while swimming off Talisay
Cebu Daily NewsA 16-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the waters off barangay Pooc, Talisay City, southern Cebu, on Friday afternoon.
The body of Arnold Abella, a fourth year high school student of Lipata National High School, was pulled out by fishermen about an hour after he disappeared.
Police said the waves were big and the current was strong when the boy and his friends went swimming off sitio Kanipaan.
The boy swam about 150 meters from the shoreline.
The boy was heard shouting for help while struggling in the deep.
A friend tried to rescue him and grabbed his hand but lost his grip.
When Arnold disappeared, his friends sought the help of residents.
Fishermen dropped their fishnets and later recovered the body of the boy.
Police said an autopsy will be conducted to find out if there was foul play involved in his death./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
