Ex-Aurora vice mayor nabbed for extortion

CAMP OLIVAS, PAMPANGA – A former Aurora vice mayor, with alleged ties with the New People’s Army, was arrested in Tarlac City on Wednesdayafternoon for allegedly attempting to extort P1.5 million from his nephew.

Gregorio Agustin, former vice mayor of Dilasag in northern Aurora province, was cornered in an entrampent operation along a road in Barangay Balingcanaway, together with Edmond de Leon, an alleged communist rebel.

Agustin’s second companion, identified as Raymond Dulinayan, eluded arrest.

Businessman Albert Acosta complained that Agustin, his uncle, sent him an extortion letter and a series of text messages directing him to pay a revolutionary tax.

They were taken to Camp Crame for questioning and would be charged for extortion. Tonette Orejas/lb
