Vice President Leni Robredo wants to know when vigilante killings would end because the murders rage on at the height of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

In a press conference in Naga City on Friday, Robredo expressed disgust over the killing of a widow in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City whose husband was also killed earlier by so-called death squads.

Jennifer Taburada was fatally shot by unknown gunmen on Wednesday night, June 18. She was the wife of Ryan Taburada, who was killed by vigilante killers earlier.

Robredo told reporters, “We just want to know, when will all this end? Many families have already lost their members. Even when the killings continue [in the] war on drugs, the problem of illegal drugs is still serious.”

“What do we intend to do? Where will this campaign lead us?” she asked.

While Robredo agrees that a campaign against illegal drugs should be in place, she stressed that a bloodbath was not necessary.

“The killing of the widow is just sickening,” the Vice President lamented. “She sought help from the Church, and now she’s dead.”

Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David said Taburada’s two children, who were in grade five and grade seven, are now “complete orphans.”   /vvp
