The brother of singer/actress Sharon Cuneta made known his intention to run for Pasay mayor next year when he went to the local Commission on Elections office on Monday.

Accompanied by his sister, 57-year-old Cesar Joseph “Chet” Cuneta asked the Comelec to reactivate his voting status on the first day of voter registration in Metro Manila for the 2019 midterm elections. He also asked to be transferred to the polling precinct at Barangay 75.

The Comelec confirmed that Chet failed to vote in the last 10 years, leading to the deactivation of his voting rights.

Cuneta said the decision of her brother to follow in their father’s footsteps came after “many, many heart-to-heart talks.”

She told reporters that President Duterte and their late father, Pablo Cuneta, who was Pasay mayor for a long time, were “very, very good friends.”

Her husband, Sen. Francis Pangilinan who is with the opposition, said that he respected Chet’s decision. “We may not see eye to eye with how we regard the current administration but I respect his decision….and wish him well.” WITH REPORTS FROM DJ YAP AND ROSELIE MARI VILLAFLOR
