13 traders held in drive vs fake motorbike parts

The police arrested 13 businessmen and seized around P30-million worth of counterfeit motorcycle accessories during simultaneous raids on three shopping malls and two warehouses in Manila on Wednesday.

Supt. Raymund Liguden, chief of the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit, identified those arrested as Benson Lim, Alex Chua, Bea Co, Lea Lim, Dannier Zhang, Victor Sy, Carla Hinlo, Ray Chan, Charlie Galvez, Ping Hong, Elaine Huang, Steven Ty and Dong En Dian.

The raids were conducted at Divisoria Mall, 999 Mall and 11/88 Mall in Binondo; a warehouse on La Torre Street in Tondo, and the Motor Kind World warehouse in Quiapo.

“From the raided premises, assorted Motoled LED motorcycle lights totaling around 14,782 pieces were confiscated,” Liguden said. The value of the seized items were estimated at P29.6 million.

Acting on a complaint filed by Eduardo Chua of GC Sun Motorcycle Parts and Accessories, the police secured 20 search warrants issued by Judge Reinalda Estacio-Montesa of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46.

The arrested businessmen face charges for violating the unfair competition clause of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code.
