Next Naia upgrade: P319-M passenger boarding bridges

Nine “unreliable” passenger boarding bridges—enclosed sky bridges connecting airports to airplanes—will be replaced before the end of the year with sleek, glass-walled, Chinese-made models worth P319 million.

In a statement, Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) General Manager Ed Monreal said the “outdated” sky bridges up for replacement at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 1 had been in use for over three decades and were susceptible to breakdowns.

A total of 11 more bridges would be replaced next year, he said. The firm supplying the new bridges, Shenzhen CIMC-TianDa Airport Support Ltd., has provided 4,000 similar bridges to 200 airports worldwide, he added. —MATTHEW REYSIO-CRUZ
