Roque: Federalism is Duterte’s solution to growth inequalities

President Duterte believes that a shift to the federal system of government will address growth inequalities in different areas of the country, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

“That’s why the president is pushing for federalism, because he believes that although the economy is the second fastest growing economy in the world, the growth remains unequal as provinces still lag behind cities, both in development and public infrastructure budget,” he explained.

Roque also said that this is the same reason why the President is calling for the fast implementation of the Build Build Build program in the provinces.

“He is also calling for Charter change to pave the way for federalism which he believes will bring about solutions to growth inequalities,” he said. /ee
