Free services from Mandaue’s barangayan
HUNDREDS of residents in barangay Cabancalan have benefited from the barangayan program of the Mandaue city government.
The city government brought its services to the barangay on Wednesday.
The city’s health office gave free medical checkup and medicines, while the legal office provided free notarial services and legal counseling.
The Public Employment Services Office (PESO) of Mandaue City also hired unemployed residents to fill job vacancies at Savemore and Metro Ayala. There was also a feeding program for all the residents who attended the barangayan held in Cabancalan National High School.
Melbeth Ceniza, 34 years old, together with her 9-year-old daughter, received free medical checkup and medicine. Her daughter has been suffering from cough for almost three weeks already. She was thankful that the barangayan was brought to their barangay.
Free dental services, haircut and massage were also given to the residents.
Department heads led by Mayor Jonas Cortes attended the program and entertained queries of the residents.
Cortes said he was planning to hold this program twice a month starting January to bring City Hall services closer to his constituents.
He said he found the barangayan effective.
“Ako man gud natan-awan nga epektibo kaayo ni. Ang mga tawo di na kinahanglang moadto ug molinya sa City Hall kay kita na mismo ang moduol nila (I observed that this (barangayan) is effective. People will no longer go to City Hall and fall in line (to avail of services) because we, ourselves, will get closer to them,” Cortes said. /correspondent Fe Marie Dumaboc
